History

In just its second year, the GX 470 has already made a huge splash in the luxury SUV market. Advanced safety features were added in 2004, including roll-sensing curtain airbags designed to deploy in a severe tilt angle, roll, or lateral G force (side impact). Also added in 2004 was an optional electro-hydraulic suspension system designed to improve control and comfort on road and off road. In 2005, the option to include an upgraded navigation system with better graphics and additional functions became available. Bluetooth compatibility and voice commands for the climate control, audio and navigation systems were also added as options for the 2005 model.

Overview

The GX gets a boost in performance for 2005 with a more powerful V8 engine. The 4.7-liter V8 offers a substantial increase in horsepower yet offers slightly better fuel economy and cleaner emissions. Now rated at 270 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque, it's teamed with a five-speed automatic and together they deliver smooth, quiet, responsive performance.

The GX also comes with a truly luxurious interior, full-time four-wheel drive, Downhill Assist Control (DAC) to help prevent side slippage as the GX progresses down a slope, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) to help improve control during hill climbing as well as starting and stopping on slippery surfaces, and an available DVD rear-seat entertainment system. So it’s not all that surprising that the GX achieved its goal of being named "Four Wheeler of the Year" for the second consecutive time.
